As we approach our busiest period, we are appealing for urgent support from the public to help fund these missions.

Irish Community Air Ambulance are committed to providing safe, effective, and timely emergency pre-hospital care to those seriously ill or injured in Ireland. We are Irelands’ first and only charity-funded Air Ambulance service and we also operate a fleet of ground services throughout the country.

Each mission costs on average €3500 and we need support from individuals and companies across Irelands to fund these.

I can’t remember the helicopter trip to Temple Street. Dad told me about it, once I came out of my coma.

It all started last year, a car knocked me down as I was crossing the road, here in Carrigkerry. I nearly died, only someone rang the Air Ambulance, which came very quickly. They gave me emergency treatment on board their helicopter and flew me straight to Temple Street in Dublin. Dad went with me. He says the Air Ambulance were very quick to arrive, and that’s what saved my life!

The team at Temple Street were waiting, and rushed me inside for scans. In the ICU, I went into a coma for a whole week. I turned out to be paralysed on my left side and couldn’t speak for ages. Mum and Dad were up the walls with worry – as you can imagine. I was only 11! What would you do if it was your child in that situation? Or even just someone you knew.

Thankfully, I’m much better after rehab and physio. I’m back in school with my friends and can’t wait to play football again. Mum said my progress is phenomenal.

I feel lucky that everyone was so brilliant, especially the Air Ambulance team. When I was feeling better the crew even sent me a teddy. I call him Hero, because they are my heroes!
